I'm Angela Hwang, a classical French-trained chef with 30 years of experience in restaurants, hotels, events & catering. My Korean background and Los Angeles upbringing introduced me to robust flavors at an early age, mostly in Mexican, Korean, and American cuisines.
My earliest experience was in the San Francisco Bay Area where I attended the now shuttered California Culinary Academy and cooked at a few humble neighborhood gems: Saul's Restaurant and Deli, still going strong in 2025 in Berkeley and Cafe Cheneville, long since closed, in Oakland.
Having a multi-cultural upbringing combined with the majority of my culinary journey having taken place in New York in upscale restaurants, hotels, events, and as a private chef, I had the opportunity to delve into a variety of cuisines, from regional American, to pan-Asian, to western European, Mediterranean, and more, some of which were at highly acclaimed establishments.
I've had the honor of collaborating with many accomplished chefs and have cooked for a diverse array of celebrities, politicians, dignitaries, royalty, and professional athletes, creating unique, awe-inspiring, extravagant, at times, over-the-top, unforgettable food experiences.
Since moving to Western North Carolina from Brooklyn in 2016, I've embraced a more fulfilling lifestyle by letting go of the hustle and bustle and trading it in for a more balanced life. Recently, I led a nationwide employee dining program at a tech company, which equipped me with skills in behind-the-scenes collaboration with multiple teams and managing large-scale projects for growth. My extensive experience inspires me to do what I love: bringing people together through food, creating unforgettable culinary experiences, teaching cooking, and consulting to launch innovative food ventures.
